A HISTORY OF SOFTWARE COMPETITION

HACKATHON "LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND"

 

TEAM3390 Anatolian Eaglebots Tevfik Fikret Ankara High School team organized the “Leave No One Behind” online hackathon with the support of Deküp Robotics, UNHCR, Sultanbeyli Refugee Association and FRC teams from Turkey, which started with the opening meeting on 05/17/2021. During the meeting, the competition program, the work to be done and the expectations of the teams were announced. UNHCR students were assigned to each team participating in the competition and joint studies were initiated.

Until the announcement of the competition topic, 7 workshops and 2 mentoring conferences were facilitated by experts in their field. The participation of each team was high in the training, which lasted around 22 hours in total.

The students showed great motivation by experimenting with the Unity2D and Unity3D platforms and the JavaScript and C # coding languages.

The opening ceremony took place on 06/09/2020 to announce the subject of the competition. After the speeches of the General Director of Tevfik Fikret Schools, Ms. Ayşe BAŞÇAVUŞOĞLU, the President of FIRST Mr. Frank MERRICK, the Project Manager of UNHCR Ms. Merve EKŞİ and the President of Deküp Robotics and the Chief Mentor of TEAM3390 Mr. Can ÜSTÜNALP, the topic was announced.

After the announcement of the subject, the teams developed their projects in the virtual study rooms defined by the organizing committee on the Discord platform. The teams delivered their projects in accordance with the theme announced on 06/09/2021 at 8:00 p.m. and 06/12/2021 at 12:00 p.m. Then, at 1:00 p.m., the jury presentations took place. The students who made their appearance in front of the jury were impatiently and with great excitement awaiting the announcement of the results which took place on 6/13/2021.

The project presentations made to the whole group attracted a lot of attention. Following these presentations, during which information and ideas were exchanged in the field of IT, the evaluations of the juries in two different categories were announced to the teams.

 

Top 3 rankings among French-speaking schools:

1) Tevfik Fikret High School - Izmir

2) French High School Notre Dame De Sion

3) French High School Sainte Pulchérie was nominated.

 

Top 3 rankings among FRC robot teams:

1) 7611 Amal Hawks - Anatolian High School in Istanbul Adnan Menderes

2) 7465 Magnetech - Samsun Bahçeşehir High School

3) 8079 River Robotics - Istanbul Irmak Schools was nominated.

 

The motto of our Hackathon project is "Create New Steve Jobs". In this sense, the project has a social component as well as a scientific and technological pillar. We are trying to open a different way to shape their future by creating a robot team for UNHCR students through the Sultanbeyli Refugee Association with rewards to be given to teams and contributions from FRC teams. We also thank all the teams for their support in this file.
